Last week, an imprint announced a terrific marketing campaign deserving of admiration. It’s not just about the campaing itself, which is amazing, but I guess you could say this imprint has the whole package: an excellent campaign, a great targeted list of titles and a receptive market segment.

When publishers talk about bundles, they’re usually referring to is multiple formats of the same work sold as a package—usually a print version together with a digital version for download. The success of DVDs with digital download means this is definitely a worthwhile conversation to be having, but remember that bundling can also refer to bundles of different titles—and this model is looking more and more promising.

Thema: A New International Classification Scheme for Books
What is Thema?
Thema is a new international book classification scheme, based on the BIC, and IBIC (the internationalized version of BIC), Subject Classification. IBIC will become Thema.
“Intended for use by all book industry stakeholders, Thema is a flexible standard that allows each market to retain its unique cultural voice while still presenting a unified hierarchy that rationalizes book categorization. The goal of Thema is to reduce confusion about subject codes for both upstream and downstream trading partners, in order to facilitate the sale of more books.”

Meet the Canadian Book Buyer
Today, BookNet Canada releases it’s first Consumer Study examining book buyers in Canada and we are pleased as punch. This was the first time we dove directly into consumer data by taking a look at not only what consumers are purchasing but where they are buying, what they are paying and how they feel about it.
