International Women’s Day is around the corner, and in this Subject Spotlight, your go-to source for quarterly data-driven insights into the performance of particular subjects in the Canadian book market, we explore the sales and library circulation performance of Fiction / Feminist titles during the fourth quarter of 2023 with the help of our SalesData and LibraryData services.
Buying Fiction / Feminist
As shown in the graph below, the sales of Fiction / Feminist titles were much higher during the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to 2022, with year-over-year sales increasing by 300% in October, 644% in November, and 273% in December.
In 2022, sales increased by 188% from October to December. In 2023, sales from October to December increased by 169%.
In 2023, sales increased by 124% from October to November and kept increasing an additional 20% from November to December.
In 2022, sales increased by 20% from October to November and continued to increase from November to December (140%).
Borrowing Fiction / Feminist
In terms of library circulation, as shown in the graph below, the fourth quarter of 2023 outperformed 2022.
Year-over-year loans increased by 110% in October, 128% in November, and 35% in December. Overall, during the fourth quarter of 2023, the loans of Fiction / Feminist titles saw a decrease of 5%. From October to December 2022, library loans increased by 48%.
Year-over-year renewals increased by 67% in October and 43% in November. In December, year-over-year renewals decrease by 17%. In the fourth quarter of 2023, the renewals of Fiction / Feminist increased by 11%. In 2022, the increase in renewals for this quarter was 122%.
