How many books are sold in Canada?

Here's a little more info from The Canadian Book Market 2016In 2016, the print book market was down a bit compared with 2015, with 50 million units (down 4.4%) and $984 million in value (down 1.8%) sold across the country. Fiction unit sales fell by 7.8% and saw a 6.7% decrease in value, while Non-Fiction books saw unit sales decrease by 6.3% and overall value was down by 3.6%. The decrease in Non-Fiction sales was largely due to the drop in popularity of adult colouring books from the high they experienced in 2015.

The poetry category experienced huge gains in unit sales (up 79% from 2015). This can almost entirely be attributed to Canadian poet Rupi Kaur's debut collection, Milk and Honey.

Overall, the top-selling book in Canada was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. In fact, Juvenile titles made up three of the top five bestselling hardcover books in 2016. Two of those were from the Harry Potter universe: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, mentioned above, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The third was Jeff Kinney's Double Down.
